DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Tom Kiroplis\, MSc.Ed.\, Dip.Ac.\, Dip.TCM\,\nTom Kiroplis\, MSc.Ed.\, Dip.Ac.\, Dip.TCM\, has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine since 1997 and has taught at the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Toronto since 1998. He is also vice president of the Ontario Association of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Tom has had intense additional training at the University of Nanjing in China\, and has been teaching physical therapists Acupuncture within the physiotherapy clinic setting since 2001. As co-owner of two physical therapy clinics\, he has worked closely with physical therapists since 1998\, adding a wealth of Acupuncture knowledge to physical therapy practices. \nThe associates and acting facilitators include: Len Kiroplis\, PT\, Elena Mustata\, PT and and Stephanie Gilmour\, PT \n\nABOUT THE COURSE\nThe Meridian Balance Technique is based on a mirrored view of the body (eg treat the anterior right elbow for anterior left knee pain or pairing the LI meridian with the St meridian). As soon as an acupuncture needle is inserted\, changes should be felt. Often times pain is decreased by 50% or more with the insertion of only 1-3 needles. \nAll 12 joints in th ebody will be covered along with multiple ways treating each joint  for pain. \nCOURSE OBJECTIVES\nTo gain a better understanding of western theories and approaches to acupuncture and the meridian systems. \nTo become proficient in understanding and localizing the meridian systems using your understanding of surface anatomy. Be confident in all aspects of the balance technique to ensure safety when providing acupuncture treatments. \nHave reviewed all indications and treatment guidelines to balancing technique acupuncture. \nHave learned all potential mirroring/imaging acupuncture points for treating a patient distally. \nBe confident in the immediate clinical application of the balance technique. \nCRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE\n\nPhysical Therapists who are licensed to practice in Canada\nAPTEI “ADN: Introduction” or any past acupuncture education is a pre-requisite for all  APTEI ADN Advanced Courses (Note: the more previous acupuncture courses taken\, the better).\n\n\nGENERAL COURSE INFORMATION\nThe program is designed for PTs with little or those with extensive previous acupuncture experience. Each APTEI Acupuncture & Dry Needling (ADN) course is designed to be one-day in length (9am-5pm). For PTs with no ADN experience\, the introductory course is required prior to continuing with the Advanced courses. \nUpon the successful completion of the four (4) APTEI ADN Advanced courses\, registrants will be required to complete an examination and will receive a “Advanced Physical Therapy Acupuncture & Dry Needling Certification”. \nPTs completing the APTEI ADN program will not be able to identify themselves as an “acupuncturist” or be able to bill under acupuncture extended benefits separately.
