SUMMARY:INTERVENTIONS FOR PERSISTENT PAIN\, Vancouver\, BC
DESCRIPTION:Jan 23\, 2017 (6:00pm-8:30pm) \nInstructor: Dr. Bahram Jam; PT\, FCAMT \n\nMember of the International Federation of Manipulative Therapists\nCredentialed with The McKenzie Institute International\n\n  \nABOUT THE COURSE \nAfter multiple failed attempts at various physio\, chiro\, massage therapy treatments and injections at pain clinics\, a desperate patient named Pat with neck and back pain seeks your help. Pat reports of having a fall at work 5 years ago and a car accident 3 years ago which exacerbated everything. “Thanks to the a-hole who rear ended me\, I’ve never been the same!” \nAll MRIs and medical investigations have been negative but she feels the disc bulges may be the problem. The doctors have however diagnosed Pat with Fibromyalgia which she has extensively Googled. \nShe has been off work for the past 3 years\, is divorced\, lives alone\, under financial stress and currently has no hobbies or activities that she enjoys. \nShe has also been diagnosed with depression that is being “controlled” by medications. \nWhat can YOU do for Pat? IFC? More manual therapy? Core exercises? Advice to just live with the pain and move on? \nThere are great opportunities for PTs to assist patients such as Pat. The objective of this half-day course is to teach PTs 10 strategies to help patients similar to Pat in their recovery. Recovery does not necessarily mean eliminating pain\, but focus is on improving the quality of life and reducing the “suffering” associated with pain. \n  \nCRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE \n\nThere are NO prerequisites for this program other than\nView the 3 Pain Truth and Nothing But videos on Youtube\nhttps://youtu.be/GPjv97unQu0 \nhttps://youtu.be/2GI4gTiuX_s\nhttps://youtu.be/MK9TBM2-7AM\n\nGENERAL COURSE INFORMATION \nCourse is complimentary to UBC Physiotherapy students
