The words below may resonate with those living with persistent pain.
Please take just 3-minutes to listen to my poem which is titled,
More than enough!
Inspired by Alan Watts / Written by Bahram Jam
We live in a world
where almost everyone believes
deep down…
that something is wrong with them.
That they should be more of this,
less of that.
Pain-free. Healthier. Happier.
Less anxious. Less sad.
Less… human.
And so, without self-acceptance… they chase,
chase after some future flawless version of themselves.
A version just around the corner,
one they believe they’ll accept
when they finally “get it right.”
But what if you accepted yourself… now?
That quote by Carl Rogers may sound strange at first:
“When I accept myself just as I am,
only then can I change.”
You’ve spent your whole life shaped by reflections,
mirrored through parents, friends, religion, social media trends.
You became a collage of borrowed expectations.
But the real you?
The one underneath it all?
The one you keep criticizing,
the one you keep revising…
is the one still believing in the greatest lie of all:
That you are not enough.
And when one believes in that lie,
they spend their whole life trying to escape themselves.
And when escaping fails,
they simply resort to punishing themselves.
Through withdrawal, perfectionism or an addiction.
The mind resorts to any form of self-destruction.
As long as pain is felt, mission complete
Pain as protection or distraction.
The mind not accepting defeat
What if you accepted yourself exactly as you are now?
You might resist that idea at first,
confusing acceptance with- giving up somehow
You might whisper back:
“But I need to change. I have to become better.”
You may say, “But what about my pains?
I can’t possibly stay like this forever”
Acceptance isn’t giving up… no, not at all
It’s actually giving yourself permission
To stop bleeding energy into fear or running away,
Redirecting it to fuel, your positive transition.
Because change…real change…
doesn’t come from resistance.
It comes from self-acceptance.
You are not a diamond in the rough
You already are… more than enough.
