An Even Better Patellar Taping Technique!

In the past 15 years I?ve taped hundreds of knees, some showing immediate dramatic benefits, while others reporting no change, other than it feeling tight and if anything annoying.

There are several RCTs supporting the traditional McConnell taping technique for PFPS using the white & rigid brown tapes. I?ve been happy using the tapes except for one little problem …the tape is too rigid and on any attempts to flex the knee past 90, it pops off! I?m lucky if the tape stays on for even 24 hours.

I?ve used the new elastic Leukotape K and found it just as effective, however it is much more comfortable and will easily stay on for many days even after a run or a swim!

(Having done the Kinesio-taping courses, Spider taping course and Neuroproprio-ceptive course, I still mostly prefer the rigid brown tape).

Step 1-2: In 90 of knee flexion with 25% tension, pull the tape medially across the patella.

Step 3-5: place the centre of the second tape on the lateral aspect of the patella and with 25% tension, pull both ends medially around the patella.
Rub the tapes for 30 second for best adhesion.
