Back Pain: The #1 Diabeling Disease in the World?

Reference:Vos T et al. Years lived with disability (YLDs) for 1160 sequelae of 289 diseases and injuries 1990-2010: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2010. Lancet. 2012 Dec 15;380(9859):2163-96.

This global study published in Lancet showed that in 2010, there were 777 million years lived with disability (YLDs) from all causes… but the top 10 leading specific causes of YLDs of 289 diseases were,

10) HIV
9) Falls
8) Diabetes
7) Migraine
6) Anxiety disorders
5) COPD
4) Neck pain
3) Anaemia
2) Depression
…and now the #1 cause of global disability … Low back pain

Clinical Relevance: Worldwide, the medical profession is miserably failing in managing disability related to low back pain; in fact it has gotten worse with each passing decade!!!
