Be Optimistic & Re-assure!
Reference:null
I often tell my patients that I have had past patients with similar conditions who have recovered, I find this gives them the necessary confidence to trust me as a health care professional and comply with my instructions.
Hypothetically visualize a patient with ?chronic? neck pain standing in front of a highly respected Orthopaedic Surgeon wearing a white lab coat. Now imagine the Orthopaedic Surgeon telling the patient, ?there is no hope for you ?your MRI shows that your neck is a mess and no therapy will ever help you!?
What effects can these comments potentially have on this patient? Certainly not positive!
Re-assuring the patient of recovery may potentially be the most powerful and influential component of Physical Therapy management.
