Can a Mattress Possibly Influence Sleep? Here is one study!

Although to some it may be “common sense”, believe it or not the associations between low back pain, the quality of sleep and the quality of mattress have not yet been properly investigated.

This is a quite interesting double-blind study that simply involved hotel guests. At checkout they asked 265 consecutive guests about the quality of their sleep in the previous night.

Certain rooms had been equipped with new mattresses of three different qualities and prices, but this was kept blind to the hotel staff and the guests. The other rooms that had “old” mattresses (8-years old) were used as the control in this study.

Sleep quality was assessed on an analog scale between 1 (very good) and 5 (very bad).
