Cervical Eccentric Strengthening

Reference:APTEI Cervical Spine

I have mentioned a number of times in my past reports, that I am not a fan of isometric cervical exercises. For all other parts of the body we focus on dynamic strengthening through range, i.e. quads, rotator cuffs, but for some reason for the neck we stop at isometrics.

Have the patient hold a light exercise band firmly on the head and perform the ROM movement, but focus on SLOW (4 second) eccentric returns. There should be no increase in pain with any of the exercises.

The patient can either hold the band with their other hand or firmly attach it to a doorknob.
Keep the eyes closed, just in case it snaps.
