Cervical Headache...a Simple Diagnostic Technique!
Reference:Ogince M, Hall T, et al The diagnostic validity of the cervical flexion-rotation test in C1/2-related cervicogenic headache. Man Ther. 2006 Nov 15
I don’t know about you, but I often have a lot of difficulty palpating segmental movement at the C1-2. Here is some great news that will make our life much easier.
Instead of using PIVMs at C1-2, you can use the cervical flexion-rotation test, which has 91% sensitivity and 90% specificity with an overall diagnostic accuracy of 91%!
What’s My Point? Among many other subjective and objective findings, the cervical flexion-rotation test is certainly a clinically easy test to use for differential diagnosis of cervical headaches. This relatively simple test can help identify hypomobility at the C1-2 in patients with cervical headaches. Please use it!
