Depression Predicts Back Pain Better than MRI!

The objective of this recent study was to determine if pathologies found on MRI on asymptomatic individuals could potentially predict the future onset of LBP within 3-years.

After the 3-years they did not find any association between new LBP and various lumbar ??pathologies??.

But by far the most interesting finding of this study was that depression provided the greatest predictability of LBP. Basically what we gain from this study is that depression is an important predictor of new LBP, with MRI findings of patho-anatomy likely much less valuable.
