Is pre-op physio before total hip replacement surgery of any value?

Reference:Czyżewska A et al Effects of preoperative physiotherapy in hip osteoarthritis patients awaiting total hip replacement. Arch Med Sci. 2014 Oct 27;10(5):985-91

This study showed that the patients who received preoperative PT before a total hip replacement (THR) had significant improvements in pain, function, psychological health, social life, and internal rotation ROM (p < 0.05).

Personal Comment: Unfortunately, patients with hip OA awaiting surgery are not routinely referred to PT before their THR operation.

Sadly, with continuous budget cutbacks at hospitals, PT is not considered ?essential? and is often the first to go!
