SI Joint Stabilization using Theraband
Previous studies have demonstrated the value of the ipsilateral gluteus maximus and the contra-lateral latissimus dorsi in the stabilization of the sacro-iliac joint. On your next patient presenting with SI issues (e.g. during pregnancy or post partum) don?t forget to prescribe this step-up exercise.
Tie a Theraband on the doorknob or a banister. Step up on the stool at the same time as you extend the contra-lateral shoulder.
If there is any local SI joint pain during this exercise, the patient should seriously consider the use of an SI belt.
