The Brain that Changes with Pain!

Reference:Flor H, et al Extensive reorganization of primary somatosensory cortex in chronic back pain patients. Neurosci Lett. 1997 Mar 7;224(1):5-8.

It is hypothesized that reorganization of the somatosensory cortex occurs in states of chronic pain. This complex brain study illustrated that compared to matched healthy controls, chronic low back pain patients had clear cortical reorganization.

It is therefore proposed that this cortical rearrangement may be a significant contributing factor to the experience of persistence pain. In this situation, mobs, NSAIDs, acupucture, nerve blocks, etc. will all prove ineffective! It?s not our fault!
