Low Back Pain (Part I): (A 1-day in person course)

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course will enable Physical Therapists and all health care providers interested, to gain a practical knowledge of the possible risk factors leading to the development of acute & persistent low back pain (LBP)

Upon completion of this course, the Physical Therapist will not only be more confident in identifying various contributing factors to the development of persistent low back pain but most importantly, they will be more confident in addressing these various factors including…

  1. Reduced physical activity
  2. Reduced variability of movement
  3. Fear of pain and not recovery
  4. Catastophization
  5. Perceived injustice
  6. Excess reliance on health care providers to be “fixed”

This course will focus on novel exercise prescriptions based on the specific functional impairments of the individual.

CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE

  • This program is restricted to Registered Physical Therapists who are licensed to practice in Canada, or PT students awaiting licensing.
  • There are NO prerequisites for this program
  • Prior completion of previous APTEI lumbar courses is optional, but NOT compulsory

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS

  1. All attendees are required to complete a COVID-19 screening questionnaire
  2. There will be a limit of 10 to the class
  3. All students will be well spaced apart and if weather allows we may even be outdoors for the lecture section of the course
  4. A mask will be provided to all students during any close interactions
  5. Hand sanitizers and hand washing stations will be readily available
  6. For the practical sections, each student will be limited to only ONE other partner, while taking proper safety precautions
  7. Participation in the practical sections of the course will be optional, based on the attendees level of comfort
  • Physical Therapists who are licensed or who are eligible to be licensed to practice
  • All health care providers interested in effective management and the prevention of persistent LBP and associated disability
  • There are NO prerequisites for this course
