Elbow Taping Works!...Even Better than a Brace!

This was single-blind, placebo controlled, randomized study on the effectiveness of an elbow taping technique on individuals with chronic lateral epicondylalgia (a.k.a. tennis elbow).

16 individuals with a mean of over one year history of lateral elbow pain participated in this study.

All the subjects received three “interventions” which included: Therapeutic “tissue unloading” taping, placebo taping and no taping

Result #1: The therapeutic taping technique improved pain-free grip strength by 24% immediately after, and 30 minutes after the application of tape.

(It should be of interest that past studies on elbow braces has shown only 5% improvements in pain-free grip strength in those with lateral epicondylalgia.)

Result #2: There were no significant improvements in pain-free grip strength following the placebo and the no taping intervention.
