Can Just the Anticipation of Pain Alter Motor Control?!

This fascinating study published in the journal called “Brain”, wanted to answer the question, “Does just the anticipation of back pain predispose to back trouble?”

Intramuscular EMG recordings were made in healthy volunteer subjects during various physical tasks. These poor subjects received sporadic painful ‘electrical shocks’ into either heir elbow or their lumbar spine.
(Don’t panic the volunteers were not harmed during the study, it was simply a painful cutaneous stimulation!)
