Lifting Moderately is Good For the Back
This 1990 study analyzed retired workers (seniors) and compared their low back pain history with their MRI scans.
Result #1: A history of LBP and visible spinal pathology were least prevalent in individuals who had moderately heavy jobs.
Result #2: A history of LBP and visible spinal pathology were most prevalent in individuals who had either sedentary or heavy jobs.
Result #3: Individuals who had sedentary jobs had marked disc degeneration in the later years.
Result #4: Individuals who had physically heavy jobs tended to have arthritic changes including osteophytosis and stenosis.
What is the right job for maintaining a healthy spine? Think of Goldie Locks and the three bears…A job that involves ??optimal?? loading of the spine…not too heavy and not too sedentary.
