This excellent editorial reminds us to not believe every study that is quoted. The truth is that not all journals are created equal. The authors shine light on unethical “Predatory Journals” where authors must pay a fee in order to get published. The problem is that due to the lack of a peer-review process and the lack of an editorial board anyone can technically submit a bullshit paper, pay the money and voila, get published.

These predatory journals may sadly compromise the scientific credibility of other actually credible published research.

So the next time you hear someone say they read a paper that said X treatment cures Y condition, question where the study got published.

So if someone says, I read somewhere that manual therapy cures death, take it with a grain of salt!
