Neck Pain? Physio More Effective than GP!
Reference:Hoving JL et al 2002 Manual therapy, physical therapy, or continued care by a general practitioner for patients with neck pain. A randomized controlled trial. Annals of Internal Medicine. May 21;136(10):758-9
183 patients, 18 to 70 years of age who had non-specific neck pain were randomly divided into 3 groups:
Group 1: Manual therapy / specific mobilizations once/week for 6 weeks
Group 2: Exercise therapy twice/week for 6 weeks
Group 3: Analgesics and education provided by a GP
Study Conclusion: The patients in the manual therapy group recovered significantly better than those in the exercise therapy group
Clinical Relevance: Manual & exercise therapies appear to be a better treatment options for patients with neck pain compared with continued care by a GP alone
