Omega 3s Instead of NSAID?

This meta-analysis looked at 17 RCTs on Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3 PUFAs) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis or joint pain secondary to inflammatory bowel disease and dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain).
Results: Patients supplemented with omega-3 for 3-4 months reported of significantly less joint pain, less morning stiffness, and most importantly less NSAID consumption.
This study is part of the Cochran Database so advising patients to consider Omega 3 supplements is far from “alternative” as it is part of mainstream medicine.
With so many studies providing support, it is almost unethical not to inform patients of this possible alternative to NSAIDs. However, we need to know the possible risks …read on!
