Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint Evidence
The Question: Are night splits effective for the management of plantar fasciitis?
This study compared the effects of calf stretching to a night splint on patients with heel pain related to plantar fasciitis.
The study: 160 patients with plantar fasciitis were randomly allocated to either night splints or self-calf stretching. They all received conventional treatments as required,
(i.e. NSAIDs, RICE, shoe education, Orthotics, PT, etc.)
All patients were instructed to wear the sock for at least 6 hours per night. They were to remove the sock in the AM before rising. Interestingly no patient in the study found wearing the sock intolerable.
