Therapeutic Taping & Knee OA...More Evidence to Support it!

This is the latest randomized controlled trial (RCT) published in the British Medical Journal supporting therapeutic taping. 87 patients with symptoms of knee OA were randomly allocated to the following 3 groups.

1) Therapeutic taping
2) Placebo taping
3) No taping

The treatments were of three weeks’ duration with three-week follow up.

Result #1: The therapeutic tape group reported a greater reduction in pain than either of the other two groups.

Result #2: A significant association was evident between patellar taping and change in pain at three weeks (P=0.001), with 73% of the therapeutic tape group reporting improvement compared with 49% of the control tape group and only 10% (3/29) of the no tape group.

Result #3: Benefits of therapeutic tape were still maintained three weeks after stopping treatment.
