This 2008 RCT looked into the efficacy of 3 physiotherapy thoracic manipulation sessions on patients with mechanical neck pain. The comparison group received only heat therapy.

Result #1: The thoracic manipulation group showed significantly better outcomes for pain, mobility and disability (P<.05).

Result #2: Patients receiving thoracic manipulation were a couple of points on the 11 point VAS pain scale better at 2-week and 4-week follow-up periods.
