Yoga RCT on Chronic Low Back Pain
Reference:Williams K et al Evaluation of the effectiveness and efficacy of Iyengar yoga therapy on chronic low back pain. Spine (Phila Pa 1976). 2009 Sep 1;34(19):2066-76.
This 2009 RCT published in Spine concluded that for patients with chronic low back pain, 3 months of Iyengar yoga twice a week significantly improved functional disability, pain intensity, and depression, which were all maintained at 6-months follow-up.
Personal Comment: I do my 3 minutes of “sun salutation” every single morning and encourage some of my patients to do it also. Is there anything better than daily ROM exercises?
