Restless Leg Syndrome Summary
Reference:O’Keeffe ST, Restless Legs Syndrome. Archives of Internl Medicine 1996;156:243-248.
The best advice to patients with RLS is to avoid coffee, alcohol and smoking.
The second advice is for patients to check with their doctor to see if any of their medications such as beta-blockers, antidepressants, antihistamines, could be the cause of the RLS.
The third step is to treat vitamin B12 or iron deficiencies, and check for diabetes or thyroid issues.
In desperate cases L-Dopa or similar drugs used to manage symptoms of Parkinson?s can help.
And finally, a quacky option is to put a newly opened bar of soap anywhere under the bed sheet while sleeping. This seems absolutely ludicrous or nuts?but some people swear by it!! Sorry no studies to support the soap Rx!
